Fritz Macho was an Austrian self-taught photographer. His motifs revolved around the mountains and its inhabitants: landscape and mountain photography as well as portrait photography of the alpine dairymen. His historical importance is the authentic documentation of the people of his time and environment and their living conditions. Also known as “worker photographer”, Macho is aesthetically related to Dorothea Lange, Walker Evans or Lewis Hine, but with the difference that Macho’s intention is unknown.
