Carried by poetry: the AZW presents for the first time in Austria the working methods and philosophy of the Mexican architect Tatiana Bilbao and that of her eponymous office.

Tatiana Bilbao (b. 1972, Mexico City) realizes projects far beyond the borders of Mexico, exploring and interpreting the historical culture and building traditions of Mexico. Her work is wide-ranging and is often created in collaboration with other architects, landscape architects or artists: from a pilgrimage route in Mexico, to a botanical garden in Culiacán, to housing.

Their projects are driven by ecological and social thoughts, but also by great poetry. “When you come from a country where many people have very few economic resources, you are used to not wasting them,” says Tatiana Bilbao, regarding her careful use of resources.

The exhibition explores different dimensions of “landscape” that guide the office’s work – from the natural landscape to urban landscapes to the “inner landscape” of the individual building. The exhibition itself features expansive indoor and outdoor installations. A model landscape runs through the entire exhibition space, lined by a densely stocked “cabinet” full of material samples, working models and sketches.
