Bauhaus student, avant-garde painter, art educator.
The exhibition at Lentos offers an overview of the multifaceted work of the Austrian artist Friedl Dicker-Brandeis (1898-1944). In addition to drawings and paintings, photo collages, film clips, woven patterns, and furniture and architectural designs are presented.
When the artist was deported to Theresienstadt in 1942, she devoted herself devotedly to her work as an art teacher. In moving film documents, contemporaries in the exhibition report on the tragic life of the artist, who – like many of the children she taught – was murdered as a victim of the Holocaust in the Auschwitz concentration camp in October 1944.
