“Overcoming the void” is the motto of this year’s Midsummer Art Festival in the border regions of Eastern Styria and Southern Burgenland, which is jointly supported by eight art initiatives in the region. The program ranges from exhibitions with Fritattensoup to performances, readings and concerts.
Cultural initiatives across Southeast Styria have joined forces to jointly organize the HOCHsommer Art Festival. The aim of the festival is, among other things, to strengthen intercultural exchange and cooperation between artists in the tri-state area between Austria, Hungary and Slovenia.
This year’s program is dedicated to dealing with the social change in the mainly rural structures of these border regions. Until the fall of the Iron Curtain, this area was heavily guarded on either side of the border. Transport connections were hardly expanded. Life was secluded in the small villages of the region. The effects can still be felt today. The program ranges from literary events, for example with Lydia Mischkulnig, to concerts, sound performances and exhibitions including Frittaten soup.
