A play about the working life of women then and now. The author and actress Christine Teichmann works along the life stories of several women and, with her stage character, asks questions about the price of our prosperity that others are paying.
As the unmarried child of a maid, the grandmother hardly had an option in life other than to work, pray and keep Gosch’n. Now that she is very old, she is lucky that her granddaughter – who is no longer the youngest herself – found her and wants to make up for all the wrongs that were done to her. Stupid that this is best done at the expense of the quality of life of another woman who is supposed to take over the care. But she’s from Eastern Europe and she’s happy that she can earn anything at all, so Grandma’s happiness is worth it to us, isn’t it? It’s simply a matter of sucking the salty candy and letting someone else swallow it.
Directed by Alexander Mitterer, the woman on stage stumbles involuntarily and comically over the pitfalls of her own beliefs and necessities, exposing herself and the audience as accomplices in exploitative systems then and now.
It’s definitely funny – and in between it’s also tragic and touching.
With Christine Teichmann and Dragana Avokadovich.
