With an open and sometimes provocative attitude, Chinese female artists step out of the shadow of their male colleagues, who have dominated contemporary Chinese art up to now.
In the field of tension between powerful tradition, party-political ideology and economic upheaval, they examine and document individual and social fears, contradictions and hopes and often reveal them ruthlessly. Female pioneers as well as young positions that are hardly known in this country are represented in the exhibition.
The aim of the exhibition and publication project is to correct the blatant imbalance in the visibility of female artists from China and to point out the enormous diversity and relevance of their artistic work.
