The exhibition shows long-hidden works by Cornelia Gurlitt and early works by Anton Kolig, which are placed in a dialogue for the first time.

Cornelia Gurlitt was a talented and ambitious German Expressionist graphic artist who died at the age of 29. Anton Kolig gave his faithful girlfriend his first self-portrait from 1915 and dedicated one of his main expressive works, The Lament, to her.

Not much is known about the relationship between the two artists. In 1919, as a souvenir of Cornelia, Kolig began painting Woman with a Fan, which he was to keep by his side for the rest of his life.
