Carola Dertnig is one of Austria’s most important contemporary performance artists. The OK is dedicating a comprehensive show to her – curated by Michaela Seiser – that spans from her early works created in New York to her latest works. Dertnig creates performative works in the context of visual art; her work includes live performances in public spaces as well as pictorial works such as drawings, collages and photographs.
She is also known for her intergenerational projects, in which she works with her mother’s archive, among other things, but which also include the film portraits of three young women, one of whom is her daughter, Everything’s There Already (2018) and Donauspuren, digitale Weite und andere Dinge (2019). The current part of this trilogy, Blinking Forward (2024), will be shown for the first time in the exhibition in an installative stage setting.
