In her exhibition “Freeze Response”, Seoul-based artist Jeamin Cha explores the political aspects of health, using video and performance to challenge narratives of wellbeing.
The exhibition presents Cha’s essay film “Nameless Syndrome”, a poignant exploration of the difficulties patients experience in expressing their pain, especially when it defies a clear diagnosis. The work simultaneously emphasises the uniqueness of each pain experience and resists the temptation to generalise or categorise pain.
Cha brings out the often ignored voices of the sufferers and highlights the medical system’s scepticism towards patients’ accounts of pain.
The film is complemented by a collection of drawings and a performance specially conceived for the Salzburger Kunstverein.
