The exhibition reflects “the new pluralisation”, as the Viennese philosopher Isolde Charim calls it. The pluralisation of lifestyles and populations that is changing the way we relate to each other and to ourselves, and thus to society as a whole. The result is a mixture that reduces the demand for a national dominant culture to absurdity. Pluralisation encourages us not only to respect diversity and otherness, but also to discover inspiration and new richness in it positions of three artists – Donya Aalipour, Louise Deininger, Arbi Jaballah, Fabian Köttl and Dzvinya Podlyashetska – who personify diversity and difference with their works and their biographies: Diversity, which is often celebrated today as the “beauty of diversity”.
New impulses open up new perspectives. But they also create new uncertainties, as they shake up traditional role distributions and identity structures. Individuality and relationships need to be redefined in a changed social context. With new possibilities, i.e. new opportunities and freedoms. The “Wiener Melange” exhibition invites you to do just that.
