Austrian artist Norbert Kopf takes the viewer directly inside the fragile corollas by looking through the camera, revealing a world of shapes and colours that is sometimes difficult to see with the naked eye. The breathtaking images of this visual experiment are part of the exhibition “The Magic Garden”, which was created in partnership between the “Dimitrie Brândză” Botanical Garden of the University of Bucharest and the Austrian Cultural Forum.
Kopf’s photographs, taken between 2017 and 2021, emphasise the beauty and mystery of the flowers depicted. The artist plays masterfully with the light and helps the viewer to recognise tiny structures such as stamens up close. From a certain angle, they look like little men gathered in colourful clusters. The almost surreal beauty of these oversized flowers stimulates the imagination, including the sense of smell, and thus sublimates the scents of the plants that adorn the Botanical Gardens in Bucharest.
