It is considered the Oscar of the construction industry: the Austrian Builder-Owner Award. The award, which was first presented in 1967, is perhaps the only prize in Austria that explicitly calls for an expanded view of architecture. This expanded perspective has not lost its relevance The current edition of the award still stands for the conviction that architecture can most effectively realise its social relevance most effectively in a culture of dialogue in which the ideas of clients (or users) and the concrete planning achievements of architects mutually reinforce each other. This year, 23 nominations were made by regional juries from 119 submitted projects. From these, the main jury awarded seven prizes, which reflect the current state of high-quality domestic building activity in a richly contrasting way. The exhibition, curated by Adolph Stiller, in the Ringturm shows all 23 nominees, with special emphasis on the 2024 award winners, each of which exemplifies a particular commitment to building culture. On different scales, it becomes clear how educational construction, housing projects and minimal social interventions intertwine and at the same time address good opportunities for transforming existing structures.
