In his drawing and painting practice, Luc Palmer, a graduate of the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, transforms forms that mostly originate from nature into unconventional motifs and hybrid appearances. Different degrees of alienation, sometimes contradictory pictorial levels, fragmentary elements, painterly blurring, and extreme scaling serve to explore representationalism and abstraction. Luc Palmer stages figurative elements with an almost morbid fascination: Overbred animals, wilted flowers, deformed body parts and rampant plants in intense colours hint at the dystopian. The motif of tubular forms is also characteristic, describing physicality in a painterly way with their dynamic structures. The tubular structures burrow into the picture surface like worms and reshape it: the inner and outer worlds are turned inside out, as if the picture itself were a living organism with veins running through it.
