The lawn is an image that is generally considered to be worth preserving. It is pleasing to the eye because the very sight of it awakens the expectation of feeling soft underfoot. It is therefore better not to walk on it so as not to damage the image through use. Simona Obholzer is interested in moments like these, which place the human body in relation to the picture, and these are taken up in her exhibition. The lawn in its pictorial quality and as a symbol of artificial nature is not only at the centre of attention in the trailer she designed for Diagonale’25. In her solo exhibition Pleasing to the eye, soft on the feet, curated by Katia Huemer, she also focusses on what we supposedly stand on and mainly move on: the ground.
