Cäcilia Brown, who lives in Vienna and Lower Austria, teaches at the University of Art and Design Linz, the University of Applied Arts Vienna and at the Stone Sculptors’ Symposium at the Salzburg Summer Academy. Several studio grants have enabled her to spend time working in Taiwan, Paris, Berlin, Moscow, Tokyo and Beijing. In 2024 she received the Otto Mauer Prize. The artist works with themes that structure public space – order, utilisation, entitlement, questions of hierarchy, infrastructure and resources; as these themes are difficult to grasp, she works with fragments. ‘Ultimately, it’s about the combination of materials and content. In one of my series, I deliberately worked with bad connections – both in terms of content and sculpturally bad connections.’ Cecilia Brown
