With her sculpture *Living Room (Closing)*, Vorarlberg artist Liddy Scheffknecht addresses the transformation of the living room from a family media centre to a relic of our analogue past. The fragile installation, made of cardboard and paper tape, is formally reminiscent of a classic living room: sofa, table, chest of drawers and a television are clearly recognisable. But the ensemble is not stable – it can be opened and closed like an oversized pop-up book. When half-opened, as presented in the Funkhaus, the object looks as if it is about to collapse. Scheffknecht thus refers to the gradual dissolution of a space that was characterised by television for decades. Today, mobile devices, streaming services and on-demand content have replaced the traditional television experience – and thus the classic living room. The sculpture thus becomes a symbol of an everyday reality transformed by media and culture.
