The award-winning architecture studio Space Group Architects from London, founded by Austrian architect Martin Grünanger, is presenting an exciting exhibition in Istanbul. ‘Adding Depth’ is an abstract retrospective spanning 18 years and more than 200 projects. The results differ significantly from the Austrian architectural language, but alpine roots can be found again and again – a homage to Grünanger’s Styrian homeland. The exhibition at the Istanbul Cultural Forum transcends the boundaries between art, architecture and documentation. It is an intimate and abstract exploration of Space Group Architects’ ongoing and completed projects that show how architecture goes beyond functionality. On display is a conglomerate of sculptures, products, prototypes, film, sound, tapestries and prints on a range of different, sometimes very project-specific materials. The public is invited to discover hidden layers of architectural creation, as well as how architecture influences our perception of space, identity and community.
