At the third edition of the GIF, the bodies of those present will become the playing field for courageous improvisation.
Lectures, workshops, improvisation sessions, concerts and performances will once again take place over seven days, all of which will be dedicated to interdisciplinary improvisation. Some of the highlights include the contribution of the Styrian Improvisers Orchestra with a special guest, multimedia artist Yuval Avital, who will transform the Schaumbad into a performative soundscape between collective memory and identity. Furthermore, young musicians, including newcomers such as Mina Zakic, will give energetic improvisational concerts in blind date mode. Improvisation musicians and teachers such as Stefan Heckel, Maria Gstättner and Corinna Eikmeier will give interactive lectures and shed light on musical improvisation from a scientific perspective or lead gatherings for everyone to join in. There will also be an improv dinner at this festival, where the ‘chefs’ will challenge the conventions and rules of a communal meal and strengthen improvisation as a necessary and decisive way of acting in a fragile world.
