Irma Markulin, „Gruss aus Banjaluka um 1900“, VG Bild Kunst, 2012

20.09.2025 – 20.12.2025

The exhibition – curated by Irfan Hošić – which is taking place as part of steirischer herbst, brings together artistic works and documentary material relating to Bosnia and Herzegovina. They enable the idea of the ‘foreigner’ to be identified and addressed in its legal, political, social and cultural dimensions. Numerous works examine this concept from the perspective of people with a history of flight or migration. The contradictory nature of its meaning is highlighted through concepts such as identity, statelessness and displacement. Some exhibits address the positions of those who often cannot be easily categorised legally and whose socio-political status is expressed in certain attitudes. Particular interest is given to those voices that represent a counter-politics conditioned by exile, emigration and unresolved citizenship.

Participating artists: Mladen Bundalo, Mirza Čizmić, Suada Demirović, Sanela Jahić, Amer Kobašlija, Mirko Marić, Irma Markulin, Mladen Miljanović, Aida Šehović, Endi Pošković, Saša Tatić and photographs of anonymous migrants.
