Curated by Jürgen Tabor, the exhibition Visual Echoes presents large-format installations by Susan Hiller, Luis Jacob, Arthur Jafa, Mathias Poledna / Karthik Pandian and Ana Torfs. Each installation occupies its own room and offers a unique visual experience. Using video, film, photography and slides, the works examine the flood of images that characterises our age. For their works, the artists draw on the virtually inexhaustible visual resources of our time: television, cinema, the internet, advertising, social media, and political and artistic archives. However, they do not merely refer to existing material, but also create new, fictional images. In doing so, they draw on collective memory and transform it at the same time. As diverse as today’s visual worlds are, they all have an effect on us. But what makes them so powerful? How do they influence our perception, our emotions, our memory? And what ideologies do they contain?
