The Generali Foundation Collection – on permanent loan to the Museum der Moderne Salzburg – is dedicating a comprehensive retrospective to the artist Stano Filko, who is considered one of the most visionary and radical figures of the Central European neo-avant-garde. Curated by Boris Ondreička and Jürgen Tabor, the exhibition shows works from all phases of his life and career – from early paintings and conceptual experiments to walk-in environments, material-rich assemblages and large-format sculptures. Stano Filko’s work has its roots in experimental object art, conceptual graphics and happenings. Based on these approaches, he developed a radically open body of work that combined utopia, science and spiritual experience. His art followed a multi-layered view of the world and attempted to bring it into aesthetic and existential harmony: art as order, theory, ritual and sensual experience all at once.
