CINÉMA AFRICAIN! is returning to Linz for the third time, bringing outstanding films from Africa and the African diaspora to the big screen. From Western Sahara to Senegal, from Jamaica to Mozambique, from Sudan to Martinique and Haiti: the 2026 programme features feature films, documentaries and short films that explore identity, resistance, migration and the deep connection between people, land and sea. But the festival offers more than just films: The POLITICS OF THE IMAGE series creates a space for exchange – with Nadia Denton’s lecture *African Presences and German Modernist Art* and the panel discussion *What We Leave Behind*, in which guests discuss filmmaking, legacy and the future. A particular highlight is the retrospective on the pioneer of African cinema, Sarah Maldoror, in collaboration with FIFTITU%.
