Curated by Paula Marschalek, the exhibition ‘House of Aww’ is an interdisciplinary exhibition project featuring works by Olga Titus and Käthe Schönle. It invites visitors to explore areas of tension between closeness and strangeness, protection and limitation, tradition and transformation – and to experience the power of artistic collaboration. The concept of ‘house’ serves as a leitmotif: mental and physical spaces are created that address themes of security, safety, refuge and memory, while also telling of ruptures and ambivalent meanings. The artists join forces to collaboratively develop new works, which they present as a Gesamtkunstwerk, or total work of art. In doing so, they playfully and critically question artistic production and presentation. Different working methods and approaches come together, both analogue and digital. Questions of identity, womanhood and humanity overlap, with the focus on the examination of social and cultural structures. ‘House of Awe’ is designed as a multi-year exhibition series, with the first part, ‘Entrance / The Hallway,’ of this conceptual structure being shown in Vienna. Birgit Graschopf is invited as a special guest artist.
