Under the motto ‘Miradas que nos acercan, historias que nos transforman’ (Views that bring us together, stories that transform us), the 21st edition of the European Film Festival Encuentro de Cine Europeo is taking place in Argentina. Organised by the Delegation of the European Union in Argentina, the festival presents 17 films from as many Member States. This year, the Austrian Embassy in Buenos Aires is supporting Ruth Beckermann’s documentary film Favoriten, which will be shown at a total of five screenings in the greater Buenos Aires area, Córdoba and Rosario. The film follows a multicultural Viennese primary school class and their teacher at the largest school in the Favoriten district over a period of three years. With great sensitivity, it shows the everyday life, challenges and hopes of the children. Favoriten celebrated its premiere at the 2024 Berlinale, where it was awarded the Peace Film Prize.
