Austrian photographer Sophie Mercedes Köchert, whose impressive advertising motifs have had a decisive influence on the visual appearance of Bad Ischl Salzkammergut 2024, the European Capital of Culture, proves to be a keen observer of everyday life. Her photographs reveal the seemingly insignificant and condense it into atmospheric narratives. The exhibition curated by Maria Venzl at the Francisco Carolinum Linz focuses primarily on Köchert’s independent artistic visual language. On display are previously unpublished works created during the Capital of Culture year, which she weaves together with a new photographic search for traces – one year after the major media event. The exhibition invites visitors to discover the depth of Köchert’s work: as a dialogue between documentary accuracy and poetic condensation.
