The Kyiv Biennale, which celebrates its tenth anniversary in 2025, is an international project that links artistic, political and social issues. Against the backdrop of ongoing wars, colonial continuities and global inequalities, the Biennale is a place for reflection, solidarity and critical debate. The exhibition ‘Vertical Horizon,’ conceived especially for Linz, understands land and landscape as poetic and political entities. It focuses on their technological perception and use, their role in armed conflicts, and their artistic and visual representation. The focus is on a shift from geopolitical conflicts on the earth’s surface to a vertical perspective—into geological depths, where battles for raw materials and resources rage. The project aims to reclaim the earth’s agency through an ecological perspective, planetary thinking, artistic research, and collective imagination.
