This year, the traditional week-long Mozart Festival in Havana celebrates its 10th anniversary – organised and curated by the Lyceum Mozartiano, the Cuban partner orchestra of the Mozarteum Salzburg. As part of the 10th edition of this festival, which is extremely popular with audiences, a particularly wide-ranging programme is being offered this year: not only will compositions by Mozart be performed, but also pieces by other Austrian composers such as Joseph Haydn, Franz Schubert and Györg Ligeti. The Havana Children’s Symphony Orchestra will pay tribute to the Lyceum Mozartiano with its own children’s concert. This homage by music-loving young people to the established Lyceum Mozartiano also serves to promote promising young talent in an extremely difficult economic environment and to introduce a young audience to Austrian classical music.
