Every year, the international Solidarity Human Rights Film Festival in Tel Aviv presents international and Israeli films as well as accompanying programmes on pressing issues of democracy, equality and migration, with a special focus on the specific social tensions in which Israel finds itself. The festival sees itself as a venue for outstanding cinema and open, humanistic dialogue. Austria is strongly represented in 2025 with three film productions. The multi-award-winning feature film ‘The Witness’ (Shahed) by Nader Saeivar is the main programme item of the festival on International Human Rights Day and will be accompanied by an award for civil society engagement. The two documentaries ‘Unsere Zeit wird kommen’ (Our Time Will Come) by Ivette Löcker and ‘Bürglkopf’ by Lisa Polster are also part of the programme. Both films deal with the topic of migration and show that issues of democracy and human rights are firmly anchored in Austrian cinema.
