The exhibition presents Dagmar Meneghello’s salon as a contemporary reinterpretation of a long European tradition – from the Paris salons of Madame de Staël to the Viennese salons of Fanny von Arnstein and Berta Zuckerkandl. Like her predecessors, contemporary salonnière Dagmar Meneghello turned her space into a place of emancipation, a house where thought and aesthetics sit down at the same table. With the opening of the salon in Villa Rein in Zagreb in 2021, Palmižana was transplanted to the city. It is a place where intimate conversations about art and regular presentations of works from the collection become public cultural events. The exhibition SCHAUM DER TAGE (FOAM OF DAYS) presents a magnificent selection of recent Croatian painting and sculpture for the first time in Vienna. In it, Croatian art – between the Mediterranean and Central Europe, between intimacy and institution – proves itself to be the lifeblood of European culture, an equal part of the European cultural fabric and, at the same time, a topology of a woman’s intimate relationship with art and culture.
