Eva Ursprung presents herself as a critical feminist observer who uses media-based art forms to give a compelling narrative to pressing issues such as ecology, globalisation and fascism. She has been working in the fields of music, video, performance, installation and socially engaged art for around four decades. She also gained international recognition as one of the pioneers of cyberfeminism in Austria. Her work focuses on questions of ecological responsibility, transformation and social solidarity. Her ability not only to work in networks, but also to create them is always noteworthy. The central theme of the exhibition, curated by Sandro Droschl and Caro Feistritzer, is the element of water – a substance that has preoccupied Ursprung for decades in a wide variety of artistic and political contexts. This element forms the basis of all life, stands for change and transformation, but at the same time harbours destructive forces. Water flows, connects, separates and shapes – and in Ursprung’s work becomes a metaphor for ecological, social and geopolitical processes.
