The 50th anniversary of the university journal Austriaca, which has been a key reference for Austrian culture, literature and history in France for five decades, will be celebrated in 2026 with several events in Paris and Rouen. The celebrations will kick off with a panel discussion on the work of Jacques Bouveresse in Paris. Through his writings, the philosopher Bouveresse introduced important Austrian thinkers – from Wittgenstein to Boltzmann, Karl Kraus and Robert Musil – to France and shaped the journal for over 35 years. This will be followed by a two-day colloquium at the University of Rouen from 5 to 6 February 2026: panels and lectures with Austrian and French speakers will shed light on the history, philosophy and literature of Austria, transnational perspectives and 50 years of research in ‘Austriaca’. The panel will include Thomas Angerer (University of Vienna), Winfried Garscha (DÖW) and Gerald Stieg (Sorbonne University, emeritus).
