Every year, students of fine arts or architecture are invited to exhibit at the Künstlerhaus Bregenz to provide an insight into their current work. The class ‘formerlynotknown’ from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Innsbruck is exhibiting in the basement rooms of the Künstlerhaus. The exhibition ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious – On Hybrids and the Semiotics of Architecture’ understands architectural creativity as a practice structured by references. Architecture does not arise out of nothing; in addition to contextual constraints and programmatic specifications, it works with an archive of drawings and images that influence the conception of form. The works deal with architecture as a visual language. They examine how architectural meaning arises when design is understood as a rearrangement of existing signs and information. The hybrid drawing becomes the starting point for new spatial proposals and an investigation of the semiotic conditions of architectural form.
Participating students: Linda Böhmer, Helen Engel, Yuliia Fedko, Julius Holzbaur, Judith Kerschbaumer, Thomas Laimer, Adrian Lezius, Aleksandar Marjanovic, Lea Rupp, Anja Schwentner, Giulia Tarantini, Kwong Yung, Aurel Zulali, Markus Zwicke
