Born in Hohenems, artist Michaela Kessler is best known for her large-format works, in which she stages formal structures reminiscent of physical, organic forms as well as spreading, amorphous masses. By reducing her medium to blue ballpoint pen, she develops these forms exclusively from lines and achieves an impression of plasticity and spatiality through densification. However, her work is less about purely formal investigations and more about body perception, the limits of physicality, and the definition of femininity and socially constructed role models. In the exhibition curated by Inga Kleinknecht at the Kubin-Haus, Kessler presents new, previously unseen works.
