The diverse body of work by the artist and designer Anni Albers (1899–1994) is being celebrated for the first time in Austria with a major solo exhibition. Albers’ creative and experimental work began in the 1920s at the Bauhaus. Drawing on numerous works from all periods of her career—from her early days at the innovative Bauhaus in Weimar, Dessau and Berlin, through her time at the legendary Black Mountain College, right up to the 1980s—the exhibition presents her multifaceted career spanning textiles and architecture, weaving and building, past and present. It encompasses material studies, textile samples and designs, as well as pictorial textiles, large-scale room dividers, carpets, curtain fabrics and theoretical writings.
