The Schubertiade in Hohenems will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026. It is regarded as the world’s largest and most prestigious festival dedicated to Franz Schubert. Since 1976, the world’s leading stars of lieder, piano and chamber music have been performing here for an international audience, guided by a clear mission: “to present the works of Franz Schubert in an exemplary manner within an intimate setting”. The Schubertiade has remained consistently true to this vision of the festival’s founder, Hermann Prey. To this day, the extensive oeuvre of Franz Schubert remains at the centre, with recitals, piano recitals and chamber concerts forming the core of the programme. The programme is complemented by works by other composers, primarily Schubert’s predecessors, contemporaries and successors. To mark its 50th anniversary, the Schubertiade invites you to a special opening event: a reconstruction of the programme from the first Schubertiade in 1976. In Hohenems, five recitals, two chamber concerts, a piano recital and a choral concert will present precisely that ‘selection of famous and well-known works by Schubert’ with which festival founder Hermann Prey first presented the Schubertiade Hohenems to the public in 1976.
