From the geometric visions of Viennese Modernism to today’s high technology, a common thread runs through the 51st edition of the State Prize for Design: the belief that an object – be it a precision medical instrument or a simple shelf – derives its raison d’être from the perfect balance of form and ethics. This exceptional approach to design is characterised by quality, honesty and deep roots in craftsmanship, which remain intact even in international collaborations. The exhibition showcases applied innovation: the visible result of a process in which designers translate the complexity of our times into tangible, human solutions. In their selection, the jurors specifically sought out projects in which ecological responsibility is deeply embedded in the DNA of the design language and does not merely serve as an afterthought. Whether it is the sustainable use of materials in interior design, the social relevance of consumer goods or the technological precision of capital goods – the selected projects provide the right answers to the pressing questions of our time.
