NOCA – the new centre for contemporary art in Oradea (20 Independenței Street) – is cementing its presence on the Romanian art scene with a second, international and highly ambitious exhibition. Curated by Cristina Vasilescu and Suzana Vasilescu, “Tears That Laugh, Laughs That Cry” is a project that explores the complex relationship between the two most familiar expressions of human emotion: laughter and tears. In the exhibition, the public can experience 20 works by artists and artist groups of various generations from 13 European countries. These include the renowned Austrian artist Erwin Wurm, as well as the equally talented young artists Maruša Sagadin (Slovenia/Austria) and Siggi Sekira (Ukraine/Austria). Their participation in this project is made possible by the Austrian Cultural Forum, which is thereby establishing a long-term partnership with NOCA (New Oradea Contemporary Art) and Oradea Heritage – the foundation for the protection of historical monuments in Bihor County.
