In this exhibition, Markus Guschelbauer turns his photographic gaze towards the countryside beyond the art world – towards peripheral spaces where nature, managed woodland and social structures converge, and towards the tree as a central motif: as the supporting structure of an ecological and cultural fabric. His analogue photographs arise from staged interventions in the landscape. Panels of fabric and geometric forms isolate, frame and transform trees, rendering them as reduced, sculptural visual forms. They are presented as such in the exhibition: rotating, cylindrical image forms set the photography in motion and lend it a temporal, almost cinematic dimension. Photographs, embedded in screen-like structures, refer to the relationship between time, space and their photographic representation. The exhibition is complemented by videos and photographs spanning over ten years of artistic practice. Through isolation and fragmentation, fragile artefacts emerge that point to the vulnerability of our living spaces.
