The current exhibition at the Kubin-Haus features several series of works by the Austrian artist Ursula Hübner, created in recent years. Populated by enigmatic beings and imagined apparitions, they have much in common with Kubin’s artistic vision, in which dream visions and fantastical creatures were always closer to his heart than a representation of reality. Alfred Kubin would most likely have agreed with Ursula Hübner’s statement that to be cast into the world means to exist in the orbit of the deceased. In the series Afterglow, enigmatic beings, diffuse objects and materialised ideas intrude upon the aesthetically ‘intact’ world of the perfectly designed interiors found in old issues of ‘Schöner Wohnen’. These served as the starting point for the series and were reworked by Hübner through drawing, collage and painting. In addition, Ursula Hübner will be exhibiting works from the series The Invisible, The Organs of the Spirits, Justine and The Geometry of Caress at the Kubin-Haus, a near-ideal setting for moments of remembrance.
