As part of the World Design Capital Frankfurt RheinMain 2026, the conference ‘Shifting Regimes – Changing Orders’ invites participants to rethink the relationship between design and democracy. Against a backdrop of environmental crises, rapid technological change and political fragmentation, the focus is on questions of power, participation and the shaping of society: How do design practices respond to changing circumstances? What scope for action do they open up or restrict?
The conference brings together participants from academia, design, activism and the arts. Through lectures, workshops and discussions, topics such as digital democracy and visions for the future of society will be explored.
The conference is organised by the German Society for Design Theory and Research in collaboration with Normative Orders, the Kunstgewerbemuseum/Design Campus SKD and Design and Democracy.
