With ‘Selections’, the Leica Gallery presents a personal selection from Alex Webb’s multifaceted and internationally significant body of work. The exhibition offers a striking insight into nearly three decades of his photographic work in colour. On display are works from India, Greece, Grenada and Haiti, as well as photographs from Cuba and Mexico. Alex Webb is regarded as one of the most significant colour photographers of our time. His distinctive use of colour, light and space has had a lasting impact on documentary photography. Webb’s works thrive on intense lighting, multi-layered compositions and the atmospheric density of tropical regions. On his journeys through urban spaces around the globe, he focuses not only on everyday life, but also on those fleeting, often enigmatic moments in which poetry, tension and social reality converge. His photographs speak of movement, intimacy and observation – complex, vibrant and full of visual energy. All the works in the exhibition were taken with Leica M cameras.
