In the summer of 2026, Belvedere 21 will host a large-scale exhibition on the ground floor and upper-floor exhibition levels, dedicated to the new acquisitions made for the Belvedere Collection over the last ten years. In keeping with the collection’s profile, works of art from all periods will come together in a spatial arrangement designed by Heimo Zobernig – a ‘dress rehearsal’, so to speak.
Collecting occupies a central position as a core task of the museum. The targeted expansion of the holdings across all periods, from medieval art to the present day, follows programmatic criteria derived both from the collection’s profile and from a re-examination of art history with regard to gaps and areas in need of further coverage. Consequently, emphasis has been and continues to be placed on substantially expanding the representation of female artists and other previously under-represented voices within the collection. The exhibition, curated by Stella Rollig and Luisa Ziaja, reflects these priorities and encompasses both historical and contemporary artworks in a display specially conceived by the artist Heimo Zobernig for this presentation.
