It’s unbelievable: statistically, every person in Austria throws away around 75 kilograms of edible food each year. If global food waste were compared to countries, it would be the third-largest emitter of greenhouse gases. The photo exhibition ‘Eaten Up! Using food instead of wasting it’ by photographer and TV journalist Dieter Bornemann and author and food blogger Isolde Bornemann brings this waste to light. Eleven families kept a record of the edible food they threw away over a four-week period. The discarded food was then repurchased and photographed with the family; an unannounced peek into the fridge offers an insight into their eating habits. The exhibition also highlights ways to make good use of food.
