A new instalment of the transnational exhibition series ‘Las Palmeras Cansadas’ is opening at the Museo MARTE in San Salvador. Following stops in Austria, Rabat, Seoul and Maribor, the project – conceived by Markus Waitschacher and Elisabeth Piskernik – is now evolving in collaboration with the Salvadoran curator and artist Antonio Romero. Contributions from local artists bring fresh perspectives that incorporate El Salvador’s cultural and social context. The exhibition centres on the palm tree as a multifaceted symbol of colonial history, ecological crises and social change. The works offer both critical and poetic approaches to the relationship between humans and nature, and explore climate change, migration and the traces of historical exploitation.
