Kateryna Lysovenko, who was born in Ukraine and has been living in Austria since 2022, sees painting as a social act and a political medium – not so much as an illustration of events, but rather as a method for discovering and questioning the world. Her evocative visual world is based on observations, shifts in perspective, fragments of everyday life and news reports. Here, painting becomes a tool for renegotiating visibility and reality. Lysovenko works with reduction and empty spaces; she interprets colour as a space in its own right. The result is atmospheric images – counter-images to propaganda.
