The relationship between landscape, the city and digital connectivity lies at the heart of Hubert Blanz’s artistic practice. Through photography, collages, video and spatial installations, he explores the interconnection between natural and man-made structures. In the exhibition project ‘Stadt-Land-Cyberspace’, ten different groups of works explore these issues and examine them from various perspectives. The starting point is a model of a ‘landscape city’ developed specifically for the exhibition. Here, Blanz turns his attention to the Vorarlberg Rhine Valley and the ongoing densification of settlement areas. He addresses the merging of municipalities into a continuous settlement belt and critically examines urban sprawl, dependence on transport and the loss of open spaces. The exhibition at Bildraum Bodensee presents the Rhine Valley as an example of the transformation of modern landscapes and links regional developments to global questions about the future of the city, the countryside and our living environment.
