For the sixth time, the village in the Kremstal is being transformed into a hotspot on the literary scene. As with previous festivals, the unique atmosphere of the Baroque abbey, the theatre hall, Café Panorama, the local library, the inn and the village square will become venues for reading, discussion, philosophical reflection, performance, political debate, dancing, laughter, eating and drinking. The focus is on open access to culture and literature. Alongside this openness – which also means not limiting the festival to any particular literary genre – curiosity is the defining factor in the festival’s planning. A dedicated children’s programme features a puppet theatre and two interactive readings for everyone aged three and over. Literary performances feature alongside readings and discussions with renowned authors. A dance performance (featuring, amongst others, the great actress and singer Anne Bennent) about the poet Christine Lavant is on the programme, as is – for the first time – an ‘open mic’ session where anyone can present their own texts. There is also room for a crime novel breakfast reading and a book launch. The performance by local hero Erwin Einzinger promises to be exciting: he’ll be kicking things off. – Who or what? That remains to be seen. For the first time at the festival, poetry slam will also take centre stage, featuring the internationally renowned slammer Agnes Maier. Late at night, in the Baroque abbey library, the Ensemble ZEITENKLANG will give the world premiere of a work by a contemporary composer; there will also be a concert featuring Hans-Peter Falkner, as well as dancing and a party. 45 guests will be appearing in 25 events (nine of which are free to attend), including Eva Menasse, Dimitré Dinev, Norbert Gstrein, Birgit Birnbacher, Daniela Strigl, Elias Hirschl, Herbert Dutzler, the current Bachmann Prize winner Natascha Gangl and Milena Michiko Flašar.
