Dieter Preisl’s artistic works, created in serial blocks, are characterised by an exploration of the arrangement of planes and ambiguous structures, and – through the dimensions and positioning of these planes – the creation of a spatial effect. The artist’s most striking artistic idiom, however, is his linear structure, which at times strictly regulates the compositions through fine dotted lines and sequences – as parallel arrangements of hatching placed one above or alongside the other – only to dissolve seemingly fixed orders elsewhere through meandering lines. The differences in the densification and dissolution of the resulting interference patterns are as gradual as they are essential.
