Caspar David Friedrich, one of the most significant artists of the Romantic period, once remarked: “Not everything can be taught, not everything learnt, nor attained through mere mechanical repetition; for what in art may truly be called of a purely spiritual nature lies beyond the narrow confines of craftsmanship.” On a journey, the landscape appears as the spatial manifestation of a mental space and as a medium for movement. It bears within it traces, memories and possibilities. Where the path fades away, the sea of mist begins: a space beyond what can be taught, in which orientation becomes a quest. The current exhibition at the AG18 Gallery features works by Sebastian Burger, Martin Kobe, Shamin Radmand, Lars Anker Rasmussen and Ronny Szillo.
