This autumn, the Austrian Cultural Forum in Pretoria is presenting a series of concerts and workshops featuring the Viennese jazz duo Michaela Rabitsch & Robert Pawlik. The pair have performed in 52 countries and blend jazz with pop, Latin and world music. In Johannesburg, they will be performing as a quartet in renowned jazz clubs, accompanied by South African jazz greats Jimmy Mngwandi (bass) and Ayanda Sikade (drums). Mngwandi, one of the country’s most distinguished jazz bassists, has played with Hugh Masekela and Miriam Makeba, amongst others. In addition, Rabitsch and Pawlik are offering workshops at the music department of Wits University. This gives young music students the opportunity to engage directly with the two Austrian musicians.
